FM R IZ - Lithium & Tang

Oggi vi parlo di Lithium & Tang, l'ultimo album di Craig Caudill A.K.A. FM R IZ compositore attivo sulla scena della musica elettronica sin dai primi anni 2000.

Lithium & Tang è un lavoro particolare dove la musica elettronica e il dark hip hop si mischiano per dar vita a delle tonalità estremamente interessanti. La rugosità dei suoni sintetici accompagna le sonorità della cultura hip hop. Ho apprezzato molto in Coup of Delusion (primo brano) i suoni percussivi spazializati tra gli altorplanti, c'è molta attenzione sulla direzionalità del suono. In Blincoln Logs (terzo brano) ritroviamo nuovamente uno studio sulla spazializzazione sonora ma questa volta le protagoniste sono le medio-alte frequenze che si muovono seguendo i bpm del brano. Le composizioni di FM R IZ sembrano essere vive nonostante l'astrattismo della musica elettronica. In Echo Away (quinto brano) sembra quasi che Craig voglia smorzare la tensione accumulata dai precedenti brani portandoci dei suoni dolci e lontani, delle leggerissime note acute di pianoforte con un pizzico di delay e riverbero accompagnano tutta la traccia.

Per concludere, ho apprezzato molto la ricerca sonora della spazializzazione dei vari elementi e mi è piaciuta la tensione creata all'interno di tutto Lithium & Tang. Una tensione non armonica ma bensì timbrica che trova poi la sua risoluzione in Ariane 5 (sesta ed ultima traccia), un brano lento ed immersivo con le note dei pad che riechieggiano in tutta la composizione.

Today I'm talking about Lithium & Tang, the latest album by Craig Caudill A.K.A. FM R IZ a composer active on the electronic music scene since the early 2000s.

Lithium & Tang is a particular work where electronic music and dark hip hop mix to create extremely interesting texture. The roughness of the synthetic sounds accompanies the sounds of hip hop culture. I really appreciated in Coup of Delusion (first track) the percussive sounds spatialized between the altorplants, there is a lot of attention on the directionality of the sound. In Blincoln Logs (third track) we find again a study on sound spatialization but this time the protagonists are the medium-high frequencies that move following the bpm of the track. FM R IZ's compositions seem to be alive despite the abstraction of electronic music. In Echo Away (fifth track) it almost seems that Craig wants to soften the tension accumulated by the previous tracks bringing us sweet and distant sounds, very light high notes of piano with a hint of delay and reverb accompany the whole track.
To conclude, I really appreciated the sound research of the spatialization of the various elements and I liked the tension created in Lithium & Tang. A tension that is not harmonic but it's timbral which finds its result in Ariane 5 (sixth and last track), a slow and immersive piece with the notes of the pads that recur throughout the composition.
